Carol Vincie is a serial entrepreneur starting her first business at 16.
She spent 25 years at IBM where despite its structured environment she was able to navigate herself into positions not typically available to women during her tenure:
Sales Rep for a major insurance company
First and Second line Sales Manager positions
Responsibility for PCs in the Far East, during their early stages
Negotiating product support from 5 development sites for a major retailer
Co-Ordinator for a Corporate Management Committee (CMC) project as IBM transitioned into current technology
After taking advantage of a retirement buy-out program, Carol launched 2 businesses and jumped into Venture Capital arena during the Dot.com craze of the 1990s.
Working with a start-up, she hired 41 people in 90 calendar days and found a $15M investor for the firm.
All of this energy and creativity was not in spite of her undiagnosed ADD – Attention Deficit Disorder – but because of it:
Steeping into roles without a track record reflects the Risk Taker power
Willingness to be a role model for others to follow reflects Creativity
Challenging the corporate strategy for the future of computing reflects the Visionary insights that come from listening to customers’ needs and a willingness to stand apart from conventions
As she was writing this book, she realized this was a document she wished was available during her childhood. Be brave and share it with your clients, colleagues, and family.
